The Mudding and Taping Process

Achieving sound drywall surfaces through Mudding and taping is a labor intensive process. It includes:

1. Drywall Joint Taping

In the first step, drywall tape is placed over the seams of the drywall sheets. In line with the project requirements, the following tapes are used:
Paper Tape – It sticks well at most seams and corners. So, it can be used at most joints.
Mesh Tape – This self adhesive tape is useful in areas with excessive movement as it alleviates the chances of cracking.
Corner Beads & Reinforcement Tape – These are used to strengthen corners and protect it from being damaged over time.

2. First Coat of Mudding

The taped seams are then covered with a layer of joint compound, commonly referred to as mud. This layer secures the seams and also smooths the joint edges. In order to succeed, care has to be taken in avoiding air bubbles and uneven surfaces when applying the coat.

3. Second & Third Coats of Mudding

To further polish the surface, other layers of mudding compound are incorporated. Each layer is spread out to increase surface area. In order to avoid cracks or imperfections, ample amount of time is set between coats to ensure that the paint has dried.

4. Sanding & Smoothing

After the last coat of mud is dry, we perform sanding techniques to eliminate any rough surfaces, burrs, or surplus compound. The outcome of this step guarantees that the drywall is prepared for paints, texture skins, and wall coverings.

Our Process: From Framing to Finishing

Vera Pro has a predetermined system for completing drywall projects, ensuring every project meets the high standards we’ve set:

Level 1

Simple taping for surfaces that are not meant to be seen, such as attics and utility rooms.

Level 2

A light coat of mud over tape that can be found on drywall in garages or unfinished basements.

Level 3

Covering surfaces with deeper levels of mud for smoother surfaces that can be lightly textured.

Level 4

A smooth surface finish that is ready to receive paint or minimal wall coverings.

Level 5

The highest level finish which involves putting an extra skim coat to achieve a flawless appearance on luxury homes or commercial buildings.
